It is certain that media can have an effect on the way audiences may think or behave. However, it is debatable how much influence a piece of media can hold over its audience. Because individuals are capable of thinking critically, they are able to prevent themselves from being completely swayed by the media they consume. However, some people may not be able to consume media as critically as others. Children are more susceptible to believing what they see on television or online than those who are more mature. In this case, it would be more appropriate to make use of censorship to avoid exposing them to topics they are not ready to explore yet.
When compared to the harsh dealings of reality, many forms of media tend to explore aspects of utopia. In contrast with reality’s exhaustion, scarcity, dreariness, manipulation, and fragmentation there is utopia’s energy, abundance, intensity, transparency, and community. These aspects provide a sense of escapism from reality and appear to be more appealing, making the consumption of media relating to these aspects more desirable to audiences. While the escapism aspect of media can help to temporarily satisfy consumers, the undesirable factors of reality will still be present. Sometimes, in a better attempt to engage with audiences, media creators will conduct research on certain populations or communities. An ethnographic study can be conducted to find how audiences take in and react to certain types of media. Different social groups can interpret the same piece of media in different ways. For example, one group may prefer a piece of media that is in line with their beliefs while another group may be critical of that same piece of media because it goes against their beliefs. 10 Ways to Cope With Stress

Meaning
The image on the left is the first draft of the cover of my magazine while the image on the right is the first revision of the cover of my magazine. I created the first draft with Photopea. Everything was created within the program with the exception of the background image, which was found on Google Images. When making the first revision, I moved away entirely from Photopea and made use of Canva. With a change in software, I decided to build the revision from the ground up by using a template to help with the structure.
The text found on both versions of the magazine cover is the same; the title, tagline, and article teasers remained the same. However, the colors, fonts, orientation, and placement have all been changed. The title remained at the top of the page while the teasers and tagline have switched places. The colors I used for the text have changed drastically. Instead of the various blues used in the draft, I used a blue-gray. This made the text on the cover more legible. Along with changes made in the text, I changed the background image used in the cover. In the first draft, I found the background image on Google Images. In the first revision, I found the background image on Canva. Compared to the first draft, there is a lot less information in the image, which makes the cover less cluttered and distracting. This helps to draw attention to the important aspects of the cover, such as the content of the text. This is the first revision of the cover of my magazine. Unlike the first draft of my cover, this was not made in Photopea at all. I used Canva instead, similar to my table of contents. I found a template to help arrange the different pieces of text on the page, but I built upon it so it better fit my vision for the cover.
The colors used are more on the cool side. The color scheme of the magazine cover is a bit muted, which prevents the consumer from potentially being overwhelmed by vibrant colors. The title of my magazine "Care For You," is the most prominent piece of text on the page. Underneath the title is the tagline, which reads, "Treat your body like the temple it is." Towards the bottom of the page lists some of the articles that can be found inside the magazine. Though the colors of the text are similar to the colors of the background, they still stand out and are legible. The image on the left is the first draft of my table of contents. The image on the right is the first revision of my table of contents. Both images were made using Canva. Both instances make use of a black and white table of contents on top of a background image used to emulate feelings of serenity.
While both instances were made to convey the same emotion and get the same point across, some notable changes have been made. For the first draft, the actual table of contents only takes up a small section, or a "stripe" of the entire page while the first revision takes up a little more than half of the page. Again with the table of contents itself, I removed the title of the magazine from the page and made the label of "Table of Contents" more prominent. I also added some pink text to stand out from the black and white color scheme predominantly used. I also removed the summary for each article to make the page look less cluttered. Along with the table of contents, I made changes to the background image used. It now takes up less of the page and has a different color scheme. The new background image used contains less information and is less distracting than the previous background image. This is to help the consumer focus more on the contents than the image used for decoration. I created the first revision of my table of contents entirely on Canva. Instead of building on the first draft of my table of contents, I thought it would be best to start from the ground up. Again, I found a template for a table of contents on Canva and made it my own. The image on the left of the page that I used for my table of contents was found on Canva.
The different elements of the layout of my table of contents are split near the middle. On the left half of the page, there is an image of a person meditating near the ocean. This is also appearing to take place during either a sunrise or a sunset. The setting, as well as the warm colors found in the image, evoke a feeling of serenity and peace. On the right half of the page, the information about where to find each article is listed. The right half of the page is simple, with the use of only three different colors. The black text stands out from the white background and the pink accents help to give the page a variety in color scheme. Diversity and Cultural Citizenship
YouTube is a free platform in which it is easy for anyone to create an account and upload their own content. Because of this, anyone around the world with internet access could put themselves out there. Along with anyone being able to upload content, anyone can view content from around the world. With the variety of content being uploaded onto YouTube, people are able to see others from different backgrounds. Along with this, different populations of people may be getting better representation with the content they watch. They can videos relating to their own cultures to help them feel connected to a community. Globalization and Localization With the reach that YouTube has, it would not be a stretch to say that it is easy to achieve globalization through it. Videos that go viral—in other words, videos that amass a significant number of views—typically have a global reach. People can also explore other parts of the world by watching content shot in other countries. While globalization is very much possible when it comes to YouTube, many people may prefer content that is more local to them. Watching videos from foreign content creators can be fun occasionally, but it can be difficult to find a sense of community in content that is foreign to what someone may already be familiar with. Watching videos by creators from the same country or background can help viewers feel at home. YouTube as a Cultural Archive As a video sharing platform that has existed for over a decade, YouTube has amassed enough content throughout the years to act as an internet archive. Many people use YouTube to rewatch content from their childhood or rediscover an old era of internet culture. People can almost use YouTube as a time machine to go back to a time when certain videos were popular or when their favorite childhood content creators were uploading. Along with an internet archive, YouTube can be used as a personal archive. People who upload vlogs—or video blogs—of their daily lives or special events could go back years later and watch how their lives have progressed since then. It can also be used as an archive for celebrities and their growth. For example, many musicians upload their work to YouTube, so their listeners could indulge in their current content as well as their content from years past. Discuss the issues raised in the targeting of national and local audiences by international or global institutions. For animation, Disney is one of the most influential conglomerates in the industry. They have been an established company for nearly a century, and their influence on media is astounding. Along with their immense presence in the industry, they have been able to significantly gain financial prowess. An increase in financial resources leads to an increase in production and distribution to a global level. They are also able to increase their presence among audiences because they have the resources to market their products. However, not all people in the animation industry have access to these resources.
Within the industry, there are many independent animators who operate in small groups or individually. Many independent animators may not have the resources to market their works or distribute them independently. Many independent animators upload their works online to various websites, such as YouTube. With this, they may not be able to profit from their works to the same extent as conglomerates, but since they are uploaded to the internet, it is accessible to all areas with internet access. However, they may not have the same reach as conglomerates because they do not have an established reputation or the financial prowess. While independent animators may not be able to profit from their works as much as conglomerates, they have more freedom to express their artistic vision. Independent animators do not have to appeal to a large audience, so they can do as they please and create a work the way that they want. While independent animators may not have the resources to market their works, they do not have to pay costs for distribution if they are uploaded to the internet. |
